The original pdf has been replaced with one with selectable text. Hooray!

Is there any chance we could get a pdf that's searchable and potentially bookmarked at well? Everything being just images without actual text makes 40 dollars a really tall ask

OK, so I got the pdf and I'm in the process of reading it. The world, of course, is awesome and I love it. The rules seem simple and generally OK, although I haven't tried to make a character or anything yet.

However, the pdf has no bookmarks or page links and the text is non-selectable, meaning it's impossible to search for a term. Additionally, while there's a table of contents, it's sparse, and there's no index. So, for instance, I see you roll 2d10, but sometimes can roll more dice. I have no idea where to go to find out when those times are.  Is this an advantage/disadvantage thing? An equipment thing? A condition thing? Something else entirely? I won't be able to find out unless I can (a) find the section and (b) get my ADHD-riddled brain to remember where that section is.

(Edit: multiple d10s are rolled when there are damage resistances or vulnerabilities. If there's another occasion to roll more than 2d10, I can't find it.)

So... this book, or at least its pdf, can stand to be revamped a bit to make it friendlier to read.

There's also no cover or back cover, which is more annoying than anything else.

Yeah 40 bucks with no covers, no index, no bookmarks, and no searchable text is gonna be a hard pass for now. Thanks for writing this.

Ok, sincere question for you: did you actually read the book?

Like the dice thing is SUPER obvious. Every roll has a base of 2d10 dice. Stuff like your character options (for rolls you are personally making) and monster abilities (for rolls those monsters are making) can modify how many dice are in the roll's dice pool, and these traits explicitly tell you in their descriptions that they add dice.

Also the table of contents is not sparse at all and points directly to specific sets of rules? And there is at least a monster index, which is honestly the only thing in the book which really would warrant one.

I disagree that the monster index is the only thing that's needed to be searched for. There's a lot of info that I found I wanted to look for and couldn't.

I also disagree that the dice thing is super obvious. Yes, I saw the 2d10. It's hard to find specific instances where you roll more or less than that. And I'm not going to remember those instances. I need a search function.

Is the pdf going away on the 12th? Or only the physical book?

I think both? As the book hints to be the first part of complete run, the second part is still being developed as few new monsters you see in the site are never seen in the book just yet.
So maybe they'll extend it for the next run.

This is the first time I ever drop a comment on Itch.io and I have something to say about Mortasheen TTRPG.
I love the first batch of the book so much after checking out the website very often in very late 2024 after a brief "visit" to the Booleech site on some occasions in either 2022 or 2021.
As soon as I bought it and start reading something a couple of pages of it, it's already becoming a potential game that will bring out creativities in a very science-centric world. And what's really special about it is, unlike most of the works where mad scientists often used as just geniuses based on their intelligence, Mortasheen decided to be very detail oriented on different kinds of scientists and their likings than just exposing their IQs because scientists are smart.
Not only that, since the 2024 previews of the book on here (and on Patreon), I noticed there's a couple of characters and creature revisions that either rewritten or updated their designs for something better very few of them are redrawn by different artists. And there's nothing wrong with that cause some of the lores such as scrapping the idea of the metahuman Mutants working on a doomsday pyramid scheme with the Sectilians and instead using them for something beyond.
If you Mortasheen team ever create an official Discord server, please do so! I think it'll be such a really fun server I ever join in.

Yesss!!! Time for infinite awesome daydreams!!

Long-time fan and Kickstarter backer- extremely impressed with the finished version!

(+1)

Why is this version 300 MB larger than the version released to Kickstarter backers?

(+3)

I think it's probably because unlike the backer version, this one seems to have made all pages into images. Sadly that also means no copiable text.

this was kind of the only way to ensure it wouldn't be *immediately* scraped by bots that automatically put up their own knockoff listings :(

(+2)

oh damn, I didn't realize that was a thing to worry about...

(+2)

Will there be a searchable version for people who bought it on Itch eventually?

Some of the new monster art is WILD. Things you might be used to from years of seeing it on the Bogleech site are imagined in a totally new way. I haven't had a chance to play it yet but I will leave another comment once I can but the art is GREAT.
